A Tax Service Bureau is someone that sells tax software to tax offices and tax professionals in the tax preparation industry. Unlike tax preparers, who are responsible for preparing and filing tax returns on behalf of clients, service bureaus do not have the same level of liability. They simply sell tax software to anyone at any price, which makes them an interesting part of the tax industry. You can still use your Software to file Returns, you just have access to unlimited Reseller Licenses.

Once you become a Service Bureau, you essentially have your own tax software company. You can use your branded software to file taxes and set up your tax office under your Service Bureau. If you are transitioning from another Service Bureau, the Tax Pilot support team will assist in transferring your EFIN and clients to ensure a seamless transition.
Getting started with Tax Pilot is straightforward. Here's how it works:
1. Schedule a Discovery Call: Begin by setting up a discovery call with our team. This helps us understand your needs and how Tax Pilot can best support you.
2. Review the Tax Pilot Agreement: After the call, you will receive the Tax Pilot Agreement, detailing the features and benefits of our Service Bureau Program.
3. Sign the Agreement: Once you’ve reviewed and signed the agreement, we'll send you an invoice.
4. Welcome Email: After payment, you’ll receive a welcome email with instructions on scheduling your Onboarding Call.
5. Onboarding Call: During this call, you and your Account Executive will start the Enrollment Process, ensuring you have everything you need to get started.
With these steps, you’ll be on your way to leveraging the full potential of Tax Pilot.
Generating income as a tax service bureau is crucial to the success of your business. As a service bureau, you have two main ways of generating income: selling tax software to other tax professionals and collecting service bureau fees added to bank products funded through your software.
You will learn how to create Software Packages that allow you to package value into your Software sales. Ex: Software Direct Only Package, Business In A Box, Mentorship, Tax Academy, Team Building.
When selling software and collecting upfront payments, it’s essential to accept debit and credit card payments. We recommend using STRIPE for a quick and easy setup.
For backend fees or Service Bureau Fees, these are paid out once a bank product is funded. The payments are deposited into the bank account linked to your MASTER EFIN (Service Bureau ID). This process is the same as how your Tax Preparation Fees are paid to your personal EFIN.
There are no yearly fees - once you get enrolled with Tax Pilot you will have your Tax Software + Service Bureau access for a lifetime.
We emphasize the importance of providing value to your Service Bureau members. You have the flexibility to set your own pricing for the tax software, including annual renewal fees. The key to determining the right price for your software lies in the additional value you offer beyond just the software itself.
Remember, the tax software is your product, so you will always be the first line of support for it. Ensure that your members are properly set up and ready to use the software. This includes sending out software logins and preparing them for the upcoming filing season. Tax Pilot provides technical support for both you and your members, ensuring everyone has the assistance they need.
You can brand your own version of Tax Slayer Pro or OLT Pro. Your tax software includes unlimited software licenses, allowing you to brand and sell both options. However, we always recommend starting with one software to ensure a smooth implementation and management process.
